Wetang’ula urges Kenyans to reject tribalism, hate speech and divisive politics

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has called on Kenyans to embrace unity and shun divisive tendencies that threaten national cohesion.

Speaking during a women’s empowerment forum in Modogashe, Lagdera Constituency, Garissa County, on Sunday, August 24, 2025, Wetang’ula urged citizens to reject tribalism, hate speech, arrogance, and divisive politics.

The former senator emphasised that every Kenyan has the right to live happily and freely in their country without discrimination.

“While addressing a women empowerment forum today in Modogashe, Lagdera Constituency, Garissa County, I have called for unity, urging Kenyans to reject tribalism, hate speech, arrogance, and divisive politics,” Wetang’ula wrote on his official social media account after addressing Modogashe residents.

Wetang’ula on national unity

The Speaker also commended President William Ruto for making National Identification Cards accessible to all Kenyans without stringent measures and at no cost, saying the move would promote inclusivity and equality across the nation.

In addition, he said that Kenyans must live in their country as one people, adding that all citizens have a right to live happily in their country without discrimination.

“Kenyans must live in their country as one people. All Kenyans have a right to live happily in their country without discrimination, hence we commend President Willian Ruto for allowing all Kenyans to receive National Identification Cards without stringent measures and at no cost,” Wetang’ula wrote on his official social media account after addressing Modogashe residents.

Development programs

Wetang’ula further assured residents of Garissa County that the government remains committed to development programs that will cover every part of the country, including their region.

He also lauded professionals working in the county, particularly teachers, for their resilience and dedication in serving the nation despite the challenges they face.

“I assured residents of Garissa County that the government is forward-looking with concrete development plans to cover the entire country, including their region,” Wetang’ula wrote on his official social media account after addressing Modogashe residents.

“I applaud the professionals living and working in the county, including Teachers, for their resilience and selfless service to the nation.”
