Wetang’ula declares Kenya Kwanza Majority in National Assembly
Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Masika Wetang’ula has declared the Kenya Kwanza Coalition as the Majority side in the National Assembly.
Delivering the verdict on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, Wetang’ula informed the house that the High Court ruling did not designate which side was the Majority and the Minority but only annulled his earlier declaration.
The speaker went on to explain that he had not received a communication from Azimio or Kenya Kwanza announcing changes in its house leadership.

He went on to announce that the house leadership would remain unchanged. This means MP Kimani Ichung’wah will continue serving as the Majority Leader while Junet will resume his Minority role.
“I have not received any further communication from Kenya Kwanza Coalition replacing the Member of Parliament for Kikuyu, the member for Kilifi, the member for South Mugirango and the Member for Marsabit County as their preferred leadership in the house.
“Similarly, I have not received communication from Azimio One Kenya Coalition party replacing the Suna East MP, the Kathiani MP, Suba North MP and Member for Embakasi West as preferred leadership in the house,” Wetang’ula stated.
“Consequently the leadership of the house remains unchanged,” he ruled.

Earlier chaos
Before the speaker pronounced himself on the matter, Azimio MPs had occupied the Majority side led by Suna East Junet Mohamed. While putting on a spirited battle, Junet implored the house to respect the court decision and make Azimio la Umoja the Majority side.
The same sentiments were shared by members of Azimio who called on the speaker to respect the rule of law.

However, their Kenya Kwanza counterparts erred in the ruling insisting that it did not take into consideration the recent development where some Azimio affiliate parties shifted their loyalty and joined the ruling coalition.
