Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula on Sunday attacked his own party governor, Wycliffe Wangamati, accusing him of being behind ‘cartels’ that have been winning county tenders and contracts.
Wetangula, who was addressing the press at his Kanduyi home in Bungoma town, said that the Senate is also investigating claims of over Sh100 million imprests from Wangamati’s office.
The Ford Kenya party leader’s comments come amid a falling-out with the Bungoma County boss.
Wetang’ula said that he has received many complaints from residents who have accused him of remaining silent while Wangamati mismanages the county.
“As we enter 2020 am going to have meeting with MCAs who are the primary oversight organ and we are going to carry out a very thorough and robust oversight of the county to ensure that the stories we are hearing about people being favored in award of contracts, money changing hands in awards of contracts and many other unpleasant things stop,” said Wetang’ula.
The former Senate Minority Leaders warned against favouritism in the awarding of county contracts and tenders.
“We do not understand why small jobs like cleaning a town like Bungoma town, Kimilili, Webuye should not be given to mama mbogas and youth.
On the Building Bridges Initiative report, Wetangula urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to ensure that it is implemented by April 2020.
The Ford Kenya party boss said that BBI report is good for the country and will strengthen devolution.
He said that BBI implementation should not drag and be embroiled into succession politics of the 2022 polls.
Wetang’ula also assured President Kenyatta of his support in the war against corruption, saying that Kenyans want to see the government recover stolen resources.
He asked the President to strengthen the offices of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Directorate of Criminal Investigations and Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.
