Weatherman lists Nairobi among regions to receive rain for next 7 days

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued an advisory outlining expected weather conditions across the country and highlighting areas likely to receive rainfall over the next seven days, from Tuesday, July 8, to Monday, July 14, 2025.
According to the latest weather forecast issued on Monday, July 7, 2025, rainfall is expected in parts of the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, Western, and Northwestern Kenya.
“Rain is expected in the following areas: Central Highlands, including Nairobi, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Western Kenya and North-western Kenya,” Kenya Met stated.
The weatherman noted that the rainfall is likely to be accompanied by isolated storms in some areas and may vary in intensity from light showers to heavy downpours.

Temperature
In the advisory, the weatherman also warned of cold and cloudy conditions, particularly over the South-Eastern Lowlands, sections of the Rift Valley, and parts of the Highlands.
“Cold & Cloudy Conditions Likely over Parts of: Highlands East & West of the Rift Valley, South-eastern Lowlands and Rift Valley,” the weatherman predicted.
Despite the cool nights, daytime temperatures are expected to warm up to around 30°C across the northeastern and northwestern regions.
Conversely, cooler night-time temperatures below 10°C are expected in the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and areas near Mt Kilimanjaro. Such low temperatures may affect vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children, who should take precautionary measures by ensuring adequate warmth at night.
“Hot Days Ahead: Daytime temperatures above 30°C in North-eastern Kenya and North-western Kenya,” Kenya Met added.
“Chilly Nights: Night-time temperatures below 10°C possible in the Central Highlands, including Nairobi, the Central Rift Valley and the vicinity of Mt Kilimanjaro.”
Afternoons in these lowland regions will remain dry with extended periods of sunshine, making it ideal for outdoor activities. Night conditions will be partly cloudy, with minimum temperatures averaging 10°C. Daytime highs are projected to reach up to 31°C across most areas.

Strong winds
The weatherman also issued a warning about strong southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.86 m/s) expected over the coast, including Kenya’s territorial waters, as well as the south-eastern lowlands and northeastern and northwestern Kenya.
