Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has expressed pride and excitement after an American voter credited him with influencing his decision to vote for Donald Trump, the victor of the November 5, 2024, US presidential election.
Babu, known for his political boldness, publicly endorsed Trump in the lead-up to the election, a move that, according to one American, was decisive in his final voting decision.
The MP shared a video of the American’s message on X (formerly known as Twitter), in which the voter praised his endorsement and expressed admiration for Babu’s support of Trump.
“Babu Owino Embakasi East, it’s an absolute pleasure and personal honour to understand that you had personally endorsed Donald Trump to be president. And personally, I find it as a great honour that if a foreign leader of a country who can possibly make Kenya great again is endorsing one of the greatest candidates in American history,” the voter said.
Initially, the man shared he had been considering casting his vote for Vice President Kamala Harris but was swayed by Babu Owino’s endorsement.
“I was actually considering to vote for Kamala, but when I saw that you endorsed Trump I told Kamala, ‘You are fired. Get out of your office.’ We are taking America back,” he said.
In a humorous turn, the man also expressed his wish to see Babu Owino rise in Kenyan politics, suggesting he would support a gubernatorial bid by the Embakasi East MP if given the chance.
“Now Babu, I would personally like to meet you, if you can possibly schedule a visit, I mean this might not happen, but please it would be my absolute honour to possibly meet you in person, go into an interview and possibly get you started to be governor,” he said.
The American citizen went on showering Babu Owino with more praises while imitating how Trump speaks.
“Babu Owino, thank you for your public endorsement of me, Donald J Trump. I personally love the fact that you came out in public and said we want our boy Trump to get back in office,” he said while impersonating Trump.
Babu Owino’s reaction
Responding to the video by the US voter, Babu Owino thanked all Americans who accepted his endorsement of Trump and promised to meet the specific voter who begged him for a meeting.
“A big thank you to the Americans who accepted and appreciated my endorsement for President Trump. When I go to America I will for sure meet this gentleman who changed his mind to vote for Trump after I publicly endorsed Trump. Embakasi East Republic to the world,” Babu Owino wrote on X.
Donald Trump trounced Kamala Harris in the November 5, 2024, presidential election, winning both the Electoral College and popular votes.
The Electoral College consists of 538 electors. A majority of 270 electoral votes is required to elect the US President.
As of this report, Donald Trump has secured 295 electoral college votes against Harris’ 226.
In terms of the popular vote, Trump has so far garnered 72,623,882 votes (50.9%) against Harris’ 67,927,989 votes (47.6%). Voting tallying is still ongoing.
Mixed feelings in Kenya
In Kenya, the election outcome was met with mixed reactions, particularly from Kamala Harris supporters.
Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris, who had publicly endorsed Harris, voiced her disappointment with the result in a post on X, reflecting the sentiments of many Kenyan women who had backed the historic Harris ticket.
Passaris aired her frustrations on social media over reactions to the US presidential election results, engaging in a spirited exchange that drew widespread attention.
