Former and retired President His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta, the Jubilee Party Leader, on Friday, September 26, 2025, announced that the party remains in the Azimio La Umoja coalition.

Speaking during the National Delegates Conference (NDC) held at Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi, the former Head of State said it will be up to the party to decide whether to continue with Azimio or walk away.

Uhuru reminded delegates of the position the party took three years ago, saying, “When we last convened our NDC prior to the 2022 general election, the party resolved to become a member of the Azimio La Umoja Coalition.

“This is because I, as Party Leader then and now, was convinced that the coalition and its members shared a common vision for the country.”

Uhuru cautions Jubilee

In his address, the retired President acknowledged that the political landscape within Azimio has changed.

“In the years since then, however, the Azimio Coalition membership has undergone changes. Nyinyi nyote mnaelewa, I don’t need to elaborate.

“However, notwithstanding these changes, and as we speak today, the party remains a member of what is left of this coalition and the decision whether to reinvest in it, leave it, will be a decision of the party initiative to take it,” Uhuru said.

He challenged delegates to reflect critically on the party’s position, asking, “We need to ask ourselves: where are we, and where do we want to go?”

Uhuru said the Jubilee Party must embrace innovation while building on its previous gains.

“Some things have become apparent to me. You succeed by building on past successes, injecting new ideas, and improving upon them; and you fail by ignoring past mistakes, thereby falling into the trap of repeating them,” he told the gathering.

Listening to youth voices

The former President also stressed the importance of listening to younger generations in shaping the party’s future.

“Listening to younger generations is crucial, for it is through their insights that real transformation can occur,” he said.

Recalling the last general election, Uhuru noted that his call for sober debate had been ignored.

“In the last general election, I endeavoured to pass on this message, but unfortunately it fell on deaf ears, drowned out by the noise of insults, character assassinations, myths, and the stories of hustlers and dynasties,” he remarked.
