Family of a class seven pupil at Mugumo Primary school in Kwanza Constituency, Trans Nzoia County who was allegedly defiled by a shopkeeper in Kapsitwet trading centre is seeking justice.

The 16-year old girl with admission number 240 went missing from school from June 3, 2021 to Thursday, July 1, 2021 and upon search, she was found locked in a shop operated by the suspect famously known as Deno.

According to a letter seen by K24 Digital addressed to Kwanza Sub County Commander, Kwanza Sub County Director of Education, Trans Nzoia County Parents Association chairperson and the officer in charge of Kapsitwet police post, the suspect is still roaming freely and no action has been taken against.

“Although we report the matter to Kapsitwet Police Post which was booked in the occurrences book on 02/07/2021, no legal action has been taken against Deno. We therefore demand for immediate arrest and prosecution of the culprit,” reads part of the letter.

Keitany told K24 Digital that the girl who expected to sit for KCPE in March next year has not reported to the school for the past two weeks and called on relevant authorities to take her back to school.

“The act has denied her right to access education. The BOM, PTA and Parents of Mugumo Primary demand that the child be returned to school immediately to continue with her studies since she has been registered as a 2022 candidate,” Keitany said.

He added that police officers in charge of Kapsitwet Police Post together with the parents of the victim are colluding with the suspect to settle the matter out of court that is why the matter is dragging.

“When they realized I had launched a complaint, Deno communicated with Kapsitwet police post sergeant who advised him to disappear from the area. Her parents were also compromised,” he said.

The headteacher said they are ready to follow up the case and to provide evidence so that the learner gets justice.

“Where required, we are ready to follow the case to its conclusion and to provide evidence,” Keitany said.

A similar incident happened last year in the same school and the victim never got justice.
