Trans Nzoia: Governor Natembeya’s supporters demonstrate amid arrest claims
Following claims that Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has been arrested, hundreds of boda boda riders and residents took to the streets of Kitale town to demand the immediate release of their governor.
Led by Daniel Khaemba, the angry riders and residents on Thursday, November 27, 2025, were armed with placards, condemning the government for using the criminal justice system to silence opposition leaders and subvert the will of the people.
“We, the supporters of Governor George Natembeya, demand that our governor be released immediately. We will not accept this regime frustrating our leader for speaking truth to power and pushing for Western region unity,” Khaemba said.
Ultimatum
The riders gave the government a 24-hour ultimatum to release the former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner, or else they will paralyse activities in Trans Nzoia and across the country.
“This is a warning to the government that we will not entertain their threats and intimidation. If they want peace, then they should frustrate our kingpin,” they said.
Disability peace ambassador in Trans Nzoia County, Josphat Barasa, said they will continue with street protests until Natembeya is released.
He urged the Ministry of Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary, Kipchumba Murkomen, and the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, to intervene so that peace can prevail in Kitale town and the cosmopolitan county.
“I am very disappointed that the government of Kenya wants to silence dissenting voices, and that is why we are asking Kipchumba Murkomen and Kanja to respect the rule of law by allowing the opposition leaders to enjoy all their constitutional rights,” Barasa stated.
Speaking on behalf of the business community, David Ogutu said that the people of Malava Constituency and 21 other areas have by-elections today.
“There can only be peace if the will of the people is respected at the ballot. The state should not interfere with the right of Kenyans to vote. A child brought up in warlike manners becomes a warlord,” Ogutu said.
Meanwhile, the Western Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud has dismissed claims that Natembeya has been arrested.
