Thursday blackout to affect parts of 10 counties

Kenya Power has announced a scheduled power outage set to affect parts of 10 counties across the country on Thursday, July 24, 2025.

In a notice issued on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, the company said the interruption is part of routine maintenance work aimed at improving the reliability of electricity supply. The outage will run from morning to evening in most areas.

In Nairobi County, residents living along Dagoretti Road and its surrounding areas will be affected. This includes Dagoretti Road, Warai North, Warai South, Three D Lane, Miotoni, World Vision, Nandi Road, Montessori Centre, Windy Ridge, Pepo Lane, Link Road, Mdodo Lane, Saint Christopher International School and nearby homes and businesses. The blackout will last from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

In Vihiga County, parts of the Western Region will experience a blackout from 9.00 am to 5.30 pm. Affected areas include Serem Market, Kapsotik Police Station, Mungavo, Elusui, Goibei Secondary School, Banja Market, Bombo Water, Kaimosi Teachers Training College, Turaco, Jeviriri and adjacent locations.

In the South Nyanza region, parts of Kisii County such as Gesonso, Suneka, and Riana will be without power from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Specific areas include Gesonso Market, Gesonso Police Station, Riamasagra, Suneka Market, Suneka Police, Nyangoge Girls, Governor Simba Arati’s home, Itibo Hotel, Ekerorano, Riana Dispensary and Nyamira Ndogo Centre.

In Homa Bay County, parts of Homa Bay Town will also experience a power cut from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Affected areas include Sofia Estate, Raila Odinga Stadium, Homa Bay Secondary School, Homa Bay Referral Hospital, MIC, Tom Mboya University, Milimani Estate, County Assembly, Judiciary, County Offices, Tourist Hotel, Shivling Supermarket, Kenya Commercial Bank, Kenya Power office, Cooperative Bank, ABS Bank, Cold Spring, State Lodge and surrounding areas.

In Migori County, Nyatuoro and its surrounding schools and centres will also be affected from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

In the Mount Kenya region, parts of Nyeri County will experience the outage from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm. This includes Ark Lodge, Bondeni, Kiguru Primary School, Amboni Market, Amboni Secondary School, Ruiru, Murungaru Residence and nearby areas.

In Tharaka Nithi County, residents in Chogoria and Kirurumwe will be affected between 8.30 am and 5.00 pm. Areas to be hit include Chogoria Market, Chogoria Hospital, Kamara, Meru Daily Kiruranwe, Neo and neighbouring customers.

In Kiambu County, Juja Town and parts of the Kenyatta Road area will experience the outage from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. The blackout will affect New Wood Estate, Kalimoni Secondary School, Kalimoni Hospital, Juja Modern Hospital, Star of Hope Estate, Kwa Woria, Bristar Girls School, Theta Hotel, Faith Estate, Gate C, Saint Peters School, parts of Gachororo, Juja Police Station, Elmark Estate, Juja Main Stage, Green Field Estate, Juja Sewage, Juja South, Kanini Farm Estate, Kenyatta Road, Turraco Village, Superhighway Estate and nearby customers.

In the same county, the Banana and Muchatha areas will also be affected from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. This includes Banana, Muchatha Shopping Centre, Banana Fire Station, Shell Banana, Clifftop, Guango, Mungoiya, Gathanga, Mayuyu and nearby homes and businesses.

At the Coast, Mombasa County residents around the State House area and Mombasa Law Courts will be affected from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. In Shanzu, the outage will impact Royal Shaza, Pride Inn Flamingo, Kilua, Sunset Paradise, Mama Ngina Girls Secondary School, Shimo la Tewa High School, Shimo la Tewa Prison and surrounding areas.

In Taita Taveta County, the entire Maungu area, including Itinyi, Kisimenyi, Bungule, Kiteghe, Kasigau, Jora and Makwasinyi, will also go without power from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
