A Chinese died over the weekend after armed gangsters raided their mining company’s residential house in Nyatike Sub-County, Migori County.
The raid at Yuang Dong Kenya Mining Company premises on Saturday, December 7, 2019, also left two other Chinese nationals seriously injured.
Nyatike department of criminal investigations boss Samuel Kibor identified the deceased as Gu Ji Wu.
Kibor said Gu succumbed to a gunshot wound while being taken to hospital in Kisumu.
His body is currently lying at Kisumu’s Agha Khan Hospital morgue.
A second victim, Li Shi Sheng, is recuperating at the same hospital from gunshot wounds while their colleague Chan Huang is nursing serious machete inflicted wounds on his left eye and right hand at the Ombo Mission Hospital in Migori town.
When KNA visited Chan in his hospital bed in Migori town on Monday, he said thugs ambushed their watchmen, took them hostage and then broke into their house.
Chan said he watched the thugs frog-march their three security guards on their CCTV camera before they reached him.
“One of the thugs wore a motorbike helmet on his head and curried a gun which he used to shooting Wu,” he said.
The DCI boss said they will use the CCTV footage for identification of the attackers. The three watchmen are said to have gone into hiding immediately after the attack.
The attack on the Chinese came only three weeks after another gold dealer was attacked and killed within the Masara gold-rich area in Suna West Sub-County.
It is claimed that some high-flying gold dealers in the region use goons to drive away potential business rivals.
