State of the Nation address: Ndegwa Njiru accuses Ruto of manufacturing statistics
Constitutional lawyer Ndegwa Njiru has accused President William Ruto of manufacturing false statistics.
Taking to his X handle on Friday, November 21, 2025, Ndegwa Njiru termed President William Ruto’s State of the Nation address (SONA) 2025 in Parliament yesterday as a hoax, sparking sharp debate across political and social circles.
In a strongly-worded post, Njiru questioned the credibility of the figures presented by the Head of State and the team behind them.
“President Ruto’s State of the Lies address has once again confirmed him as a master at manufacturing false statistics.
“But this is exactly what happens when you surround yourself with the likes of Sudi and company; seasoned engineers in fabricating falsehoods,” Njiru posted.

The outspoken lawyer went further to suggest that the President is being misled by close allies, explicitly pointing fingers at Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and influential political figure Farouk Kibet.
He accused the duo of feeding the President with inaccurate data that misrepresents the country’s true state.

Njiru’s remarks have divided Kenyans online, with some agreeing that government data often feels disconnected from the struggles on the ground, while others defended the President’s development agenda, saying critics are merely politicising progress.
State of the Nation address
During his State of the Nation Address, Ruto painted a picture of bold transformation through massive infrastructure development, especially in the transport sector.
He announced an ambitious plan to modernise Kenya’s road network, including the dualing of 2,500 highways and tarmacking of 28,000 kilometres of roads over the next ten years.
Speaking in Parliament, the President emphasised that transport expansion is key to economic growth and national competitiveness, drawing lessons from Japan’s post-war road revolution.
“History teaches us that nations rise on the strength of transport and logistics. Japan’s post-war revival, enabled by strategic road expansion, is a clear example,” Ruto stated.

Among the key projects outlined was the upcoming dualing of the 170km Rironi-Naivasha-Nakuru-Mau Summit road, alongside the 58km Rironi-Maai Mahiu-Naivasha stretch.
He also listed 19 major roads set for dualing across the country, including Muthaiga-Kiambu-Ndumberi, Kisumu-Busia, Athi River-Namanga, and Mombasa-Lunga Lunga.
“The gridlock that paralyses these roads every day, especially on weekends and holidays, will soon be history,” Ruto assured the nation.

Shortly after the address, the President also took to Facebook to defend his performance, stating that Kenya’s transformation is real and visible.
“Our transformation journey over the past three years is a story of real progress felt across the country.
“The progress can be seen through homes built, jobs created, food made affordable, and services brought closer to every Kenyan,” Ruto posted.
