Sifuna praises Boyd Were’s political step ahead of Kasipul by-election

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General, Edwin Sifuna, has congratulated Boyd Were for officially clinching the party’s nomination ahead of the Kasipul by-election.
Speaking after Were presented his nomination papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for clearance on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.

Sifuna described the move as a major milestone for the young politician and a significant moment for ODM.
“I want to congratulate you for now becoming the official candidate for the party,” Sifuna said.
“This is a very large family, my brother. You belong to all of us now, and we are proud of the steps you have taken thus far.”
Elsewhere, Principal Secretary for Internal Security Raymond Omollo has assured Kenyans of maximum security ahead of the Kasipul and nationwide by-elections.
Boyd Were, the son of the late Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were, emerged victorious in the ODM primaries after defeating five other contenders.
Sifuna emphasised the support system within the party, assuring Were that he would not walk alone on the path to the ballot.
“The leaders from the Coast and Turkana will be here to campaign for you. When you enter ODM, you are not joining a normal political party; you are entering a system that stands by each other through thick and thin,” he added.

Sifuna further highlighted the journey ahead, acknowledging that while the nomination is a key step, the road to winning the parliamentary seat will require collective effort from the party and constituents.
“Now know that you are the official representative of ODM. Congratulations, and the journey ahead is still long, but we will work with you,” he said.
The Kasipul by-election is scheduled for November 27, 2025, following the untimely death of MP Ong’ondo Were.
Sifuna urged the youth of Kasipul to rally behind Boyd Were, noting that the party is committed to supporting his campaign from the nomination stage to eventual election as a member of parliament.
“This is not just about one person. It is about the party, the people, and the legacy we uphold. Boyd has our full support, and we believe he will serve the constituency with dedication and integrity,” Sifuna concluded.
