It was a devastating moment for Moroccan eSports team SUN eSports, as they were disqualified from a Group B series in the 2024 Carry1st Africa Cup tournament held in Nairobi.

Led by their star player, Darroks, SUN eSports had bounced back from a Hardpoint Hacienda loss against South Africa’s NXG, levelling the series at 1-1 after a stellar victory in Search and Destroy Tunisia.

Heading into the decisive round, they were clear favourites to claim the series.

Darroks, who had just been crowned MVP for the Search and Destroy round, saw his team’s dreams unravel when a banned flashbang, named Legendary, was discovered in their play setup.

In accordance with tournament rules, SUN eSports was immediately disqualified from the series.

As a result, NXG was declared the winner of the series as SUN eSports regroup and wait for their next match of the tournament.

Meanwhile, in Group A’s action, Ghana’s Aura233 secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Nigeria’s Sierra 7, showcasing their dominance early in the competition.

The tournament continues to deliver thrilling moments, with the stakes higher than ever for the remaining teams.
