Police in Kisumu are investigating circumstances under which a police warden shot himself last night.

The deceased Fred Oganyo, 37, was on duty on Wednesday night, when he reportedly went berserk and killed himself in what left fellow officers on duty in shock.

It was not immediately established why the officer decided to kiss the dust as sources within the family established no prior domestic quarrel with any of the family members and/or relatives.

But according to Kisumu Police Commander Alphonse Peter, the deceased was attached at Kodiaga Maximum Prison, had unresolved issues with the family.

Peter told the press that the DCI had taken over the matter, adding that Maseno sleuths led by Patrick Langat were now combing the issues that could have triggered the sudden death of the young officer.

His wife Mercy Oganyo couldn’t hold back her tears recalling the agony of losing a loved one at the peak of their marital bliss.

“It’s painful. I can’t imagine sweetie is no more. I pray that God may give us strength and fortitude to overcome the grief and loss,” she mourned.

She rued the vagaries of nature and asked God to take care of their family which is still trying to come to terms with the sudden death.

The widow also denied having quarrelled with the husband prior to the death.

Police told k24 Digital that they were closing in on clues as to whether or not the deceased could have picked up a quarrel with one of his seniors leading to the bizarre action.
