SHA declares 64 vacancies in senior management positions
The Social Health Authority (SHA) has declared 64 senior managerial positions vacant and is seeking to recruit at least 64 members in a bid to enhance institutional capacity and deliver on its mandate.
The new senior position vacancies come just months after the appointment of Dr. Mercy Mwangangi as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Social Health Authority (SHA).
Following a gazette notice released by the government on Tuesday, July 28, 2025, the Authority stated that the recruitment is aimed at further improving its delivery.
” SHA Board seeks to recruit visionary, result-driven, and experienced professionals for the following Senior Management positions,” read part of the statement.
In addition, the Authority has highlighted that applicants must satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution while submitting their applications by August 19, 2025.
“All applications must be received by 5.00 pm, 19th August 2025,” read part of the gazette.
According to the authority, interested applicants are directed to visit the SHA website to review the job descriptions and the advertisement before submitting their applications.
“To access the full advertisement, including detailed job descriptions, core functions, and person specifications, kindly visit the SHA website at https://recruitment.sha. go.ke/,” read part of the gazette notice.

In addition, interested candidates can submit their applications online, further adding that they can also deliver them at the SHA building located in Upper Hill.
Similarly, the Authority has warned interested applicants against going out to engage people directly in favour of the job, as it shall lead to disqualification.
“SHA is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and gender equality. Canvassing will lead to automatic disqualification. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted,” noted SHA.
SHA leadership challenges
SHA has faced leadership challenges since it was launched to replace the now-defunct National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
In November 2024, the then acting Social Health Authority (SHA) CEO, Elijah Wachira, was sent on 90-day compulsory leave to allow for investigations into his professional conduct and performance in the role.
The decision was made by the Authority’s Board, citing the need for a thorough inquiry into the CEO’s actions during his tenure.
“This is to inform you of the Resolution of the Board to send you on Compulsory Leave effective immediately for a period of Ninety (90) days to allow for further investigations into your professional conduct and performance as Acting Chief Executive Officer of Social Health Authority,” the notice read in part.
To streamline services, they brought in Mercy Mwangangi.
Nonetheless, SHA is still being rocked with challenges, with a section of Kenyans lamenting over the services offered by the cover.
