Several people including two women have been trapped after a two-storey building under construction collapsed at Mamboleo in Kisumu.

The incident took place when workers at the site were taking lunch.

Among those trapped inside are some women who took lunch to the workers.

According to Brigitt Achieng who stays next to the collapsed building, everything happened within a flash.

She says she heard a loud noise from outside and when she peeped through the window to check what was happening, there was huge dust coming from the building.

Walter Okalo who works at the site said he had gone to drink water when the building collapsed.

He says there were about ten people who were eating inside and were trapped.

“I was rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) since I was hit by blocks while trying to escape and they have only given me pain killers,” he said.

According to Kajulu Ward area MCA Roy Samo, a similar incident happened last year where 6 people were trapped inside.

“I hope that those who are still strapped inside will be rescued,” he said.
