Several people are feared dead after a school bus belonging to Naki AIC High School overturned along the Kisumu-Kakamega highway in Mamboleo, injuring others.
In a statement by the Kisumu County Department of Medical Services, Public Health and Sanitation, the emergency teams were on the ground responding to the accident at the known black spot.
“We’re responding to a serious accident near the Coptic area on the Kisumu-Kakamega Road. Our team is on the ground, and four of our ambulances have been dispatched to the scene. We’ll share more updates as they become available. Please use caution if you’re in the area,” the department stated.
Naivasha accident
The accident comes just a day after nine people were killed after a bus belonging to the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) was knocked down by a train at a railway crossing near the Morendat Training and Conference Centre (MTCC) on Thursday, August 7, 2025.

“It is with a heavy heart that the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum announces the passing of 9 people, four (4) Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) staff from Morendat Training and Conference Centre and five (5) staff from a contracted cleaning service provider in a tragic road accident. The tragedy occurred yesterday (Thursday, 7th August) when a KPC staff bus was involved in a collision with a Kenya Railways train at a railway crossing near the Morendat Training and Conference Centre (MTCC),” Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi said in a statement.
Rushed to the hospital
“The bus was ferrying 32 members of staff who were getting off the morning shift. Following the tragic accident, those injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, while those in critical condition were evacuated to Nairobi to receive specialised care,” he added.
Wandayi equally thanked members of the public who turned out to rescue the passengers on the ill-fated bus at the site of the crash.
“My deepest thoughts and heartfelt prayers are with the families of the nine individuals we lost, as well as with those who are currently receiving treatment. I take this opportunity to thank members of the public who responded to the tragedy alongside First Responders and emergency crews from KPC- assisting in the rescue and evacuation,” he said.
“We are collaborating with various government agencies to determine the cause of the accident and will update the public in due course. We ask members of the public to steer clear of the accident site as emergency crews, alongside Kenya Railways and KPC, work to clear the area.”
