Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga on Sunday night, July 25 dismissed claims that she was arrested for flouting curfew orders.
Reports on social media indicated that the staunch Deputy President William Ruto supporter was arrested at a nightclub in Hurlingham, Nairobi and locked up at Kileleshwa Police Station.
However, Omanga dismissed the claims in a Facebook post where she noted that she was at home and enjoying her sleep, further urging his supporters to treat the claims as propaganda.
“Watu wangu mimi niko sawa. Kausingizi kananibamba tu. Izo zingine ni story (My people, I’m okay anf enjoying my sleep. The rumours are just propaganda),” she wrote.
This came just two days after DP Ruto ally and Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua was arrested by DCI detectives at his Nyeri home on Friday, July 23 and driven to DCI Headquarters in Nairobi.
Confirming his arrest, the lawmaker maintained that allegations levelled against him do not hold water.
“I am happy I now have a chance to be vindicated in a court of law as our courts are independent. To our tormentors and persecutors, you only have one year remaining. We shall have a new democratic Government that does not use the criminal justice system to manage politics. I appreciate it is their bitterness with the loss of the Kiambaa by-election. Though I played a minimal role, I had no vote,” he wrote in part.
Following the arrest, social media users claimed that DP Ruto allies were being targeted by the state.
