Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has revealed that he is now motivated to enrol for a master’s degree after meeting Irene Mwende, whose story about her PhD journey deeply inspired him.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, Salasya said he came across Mwende’s post online and was so moved by her determination that he sought to meet her in person for encouragement.

“I came across ThelifeofDR-Irene Mwende’s post about her PhD journey, and it inspired me so much that I had to meet her in person for motivation to pursue my Master’s degree,” he said.

“She encouraged me by reminding me it’s just a two-year programme, and if I start now, I’ll have graduated well before the next general elections in 2027. Please follow her for more insightful and scholarly advice!”

This comes a month after  Salasya vowed to revive the country’s economy if elected president in the 2027 general election.

In a statement on Thursday, June 19, 2025, Salasya stated that his academic credentials set him apart from the other candidates, as he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Finance).

“Among all serious presidential aspirants for 2027, I am the only one with a solid academic background in economics and a bachelor’s degree in commerce (finance). The rest studied law or veterinary science, fields far removed from the real heartbeat of a struggling economy,” Salasya said.

Salasya also stated that the country needs leaders who understand how to stabilise inflation, grow industries, and manage public debt.

“Kenya needs a leader who understands how to manage public debt, grow industries, stabilise inflation, and create sustainable youth employment, not just speak English and quote the Constitution,” he said.

“Bank on me, the youth of Kenya. I’m not just your voice; I’m your economic future. In 2027, we take back our country and place it in the hands of an informed, strategic generation,” he added.

He also urged Kenyans to elect a young president who understands economics to help reduce demonstrations in the country.

“We need our economy back, and we need a person who understands economics sio quotations za constitution (not citing the constitution). Without an economy, still, young people will continue to demonstrate na mtu wa sheria atawatengenezia sheria za kuandama vizuri (a lawyer will create laws for picketing). It’s time to have a youth president.
