Ruto meets South Sudan church leaders as conflict escalates

President William Ruto has announced his government’s firm support for South Sudan in advancing dialogue and long-term stability in the nation amid current peace talks.

Ruto took to his official X account on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, just moments after meeting with members of the clergy from South Sudan at State House, Nairobi.

On his part, Ruto affirmed his commitment to supporting all regional efforts that promote peace, stability, and democratic governance.

He went on explaining how a peaceful and prosperous South Sudan is essential for the progress of the region, also affirming that his government will continue to work with partners to advance dialogue, nation-building, and long-term stability in South Sudan.

“Kenya is committed to supporting all regional efforts that promote peace, stability, and democratic governance. We stand firm in our belief that a peaceful and prosperous South Sudan is essential for the progress of our region, and we will continue to work with partners to advance dialogue, nation-building, and long-term stability,” Ruto said.

Ruto revealed that during the meeting with the South Sudan Council of Churches, the team was able to brief him on the current situation in South Sudan while calling for strengthened efforts towards restoring peace in the country.

Worth noting, the meeting comes as South Sudan prepares for the December 2026 elections.

“Met the South Sudan Council of Churches at State House, Nairobi, who briefed me on the situation in South Sudan and urged strengthened efforts toward peace, political dialogue, the constitution-making process, and the preparations for the December 2026 elections,” Ruto added.

The Head of State affirmed South Sudan’s his efforts to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to help ensure that South Sudan stays on the path of reconciliation, unity, and democratic progress for the benefit of its people and the region.

“We will continue with our efforts to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to help ensure that South Sudan stays on the path of reconciliation, unity, and democratic progress for the benefit of her people and the region,” Ruto said.
