Ruto said, “The church has influenced us to be the people we are today. I can confirm that I am a product of a Christian upbringing. If I didn’t go to Sunday school, if I didn’t go to the youth camps, maybe I wouldn’t be the person I am today.”

“And therefore, we are truly grateful to the church. What they are doing, assisting, mentoring young people, communities, and the different contributions that have been made by faith-based organisations.”

“And today we come here to celebrate the African Inland Church. To the representatives, I want to say thank you on behalf of the government of Kenya. Nilikuja hapa mara mingi, tukafanya kazi na nyinyi. Mlinipatia kura zenu nyingi, nasema asante sana. Nitafanya bidii kuhakikisha ya kwamba sehemu hii ya Marsabit inashughulikiwa na serikali ya Kenya.

Ruto on community development

During the event, Ruto also highlighted government efforts to ensure all children in Kenya have access to education. He said the government has allocated funds from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) each year to support schools and build enough classrooms.

“Tuko na mpango ya kutosha kuhakikisha kila mtoto wa Kenya anapata kusoma. We must never have any child in Kenya amekosa masomo. Tumepatiana pesa za CDF kila mwaka; kila constituency haipungui milioni mia moja themanini ya kujenga mashule, kuhakikisha watoto wetu wanasoma. Tujenge madarasa ya kutosha. We must have enough classrooms,” Ruto said.
