Ruto donates Ksh5M towards church wall construction

President William Ruto has donated Ksh5 million to support the construction of a perimeter wall at the PCEA Joshua Matenjwa Memorial Church in Limuru, Kiambu County.

Speaking during a Sunday service at the church on August 10, 2025, the president said he would contribute to the project despite past criticism over his church donations.

Mliniambia hapo njee ata nyinyi mnajenga wall ya hii kanisa… nitakupatia mchango wangu wa shilingi milioni tano mueze kujenga hio wall na nitawaongezea maombi,” Ruto told congregants.

The head of state’s announcement was met with applause from worshippers, many of whom expressed gratitude for the pledge.

The donation comes amid sustained public debate over the government’s frequent church contributions, with opposition leaders accusing the administration of misusing state resources.

Warning against obstructors

Ruto likened his critics to biblical figures who sought to derail noble causes, urging the church to ignore detractors and proceed with its development plans.

Chungeni na Sonbalat na Tobias wanaweza kuja kusumbua lakini pia wakikuja fungeni maskio yenu, kelele iendee lakini mmalize wall ya kanisa,” he said, encouraging the leadership to complete the wall despite outside noise.

His remarks follow weeks of scrutiny after revealing plans to build a chapel at State House costing Ksh 350 million a proposal that was sharply criticised by the opposition.

Church support defended

During the Limuru service, Ruto defended his consistent financial support for church projects, saying it is rooted in his faith and a desire to foster community development.

He dismissed claims that such contributions are politically motivated, instead framing them as part of his personal commitment to empowering religious institutions.

“I have been criticised before for contributing to churches, mimi nimezoea,” he added, drawing laughter from the congregation.

The president pledged continued partnership with churches and encouraged Kenyans to support legitimate faith-based initiatives aimed at uplifting communities.
