Ruto announces transformative projects in Kakamega worth Ksh21B

President William Ruto has announced the government’s key transformative projects worth at least Ksh21 billion set out to benefit Kakamega County residents.
While making his address on Saturday, November 1, 2025, in Kakamega County, Ruto announced the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and equitable development.

“We are investing more than Ksh21 billion in transformative projects in Kakamega County, reaffirming our commitment to inclusive growth and equitable development,” Ruto stated.
On his part, Ruto announced that part of the Ksh21 billion project will see Kakamega residents benefit from at least Ksh14 billion for affordable housing units, while atbillion is expected to be invested in modern fresh produce markets.

In addition, Ruto announced that students residing in Kakamega County will benefit from Ksh2 billion, which will see Kakamega students have developed hostels across various institutions of higher learning.
“These include Ksh14 billion for affordable housing units, Ksh2.5 billion for modern fresh produce markets, and Ksh2 billion for student hostels in our institutions of higher learning,” he announced.
On the other hand, Ruto noted the government’s plan to establish a gold refinery in Ikolomani at a cost of Ksh1.5 billion in a bid to ensure that the local community benefits directly from natural resources in the county.

Rural electricity
At the time, Ruto also commissioned at least 230 km of new roads across the county, and he confirmed the government had allocated at least Ksh2.6 billion to connect 34,000 homesteads to electricity.

He also announced plans underway to upgrade Kakamega Airport by extending the runway from 900 meters to 1.2 kilometers and widening it to accommodate larger aircraft.
