Robert Alai says DCP leaders faked attack
Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai has accused Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s allies of staging the Sunday, July 27, 2025 attack that disrupted their political rally in Murang’a County.
In a statement shared via his X account, Alai questioned the authenticity of the incident, particularly a photo showing a bullet lodged in one of the vehicles in the DCP convoy.
“This is a placed or planted bullet. Casing travelled with the projectile? Casing discharges near the shooter,” Alai wrote, suggesting the bullet was deliberately staged.

Chaos and tear gas
The chaos unfolded after a church service at AIPCA Christ the King Church in Kahuro, Kigumo Constituency, which was attended by Nyandarua Senator John Methu and other leaders allied to Gachagua.
The leaders, affiliated with the Democratic Consciousness Party (DCP), had planned to hold several rallies in the area, but were blocked by police before they could proceed.
According to footage shared online, the situation turned chaotic when teargas was fired, causing panic. Senator Methu and several others were forced to flee on foot. A vehicle from Methu’s convoy was also reportedly damaged during the altercation.

Senator Methu later claimed that the police had used excessive force, including live ammunition, targeting their group without provocation.
“Police officers who appeared to be under very clear instructions have attacked us at Ngonda, Kigumo Constituency and used live ammunition on my vehicle, forcing us to escape by foot,” Methu said.
Adding;
“Listen Mr. William Samoei Ruto, no amount of violence and police brutality shall change our WanTam resolve.”
DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua issued a statement shortly after the incident, accusing the government of using state machinery to frustrate and intimidate opposition voices.
“I have learnt of the unfortunate event at Ngonda Shopping Centre, in Murang’a where state-sponsored militia accompanied by rogue police officers under instructions of Mr. William Ruto and CS for Interior Kipchumba Murkomen have violently beaten wananchi and leaders after church service,” Gachagua wrote on X.
“How do you go to church, reconcile your conscience at the Holy Altar, while you instruct your police and goons to kill Kenyans in the same neighbourhood?” he added.
Gachagua demanded immediate action against those involved, calling the incident barbaric, dictatorial, and violent against the very soul of our nation.
