Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Raila Odinga, has signalled that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report will be amended despite earlier communication from his troops that the document will not be changed.

Speaking on Monday, November 9, 2020, after a meeting with leaders from ASAL areas, the ODM chief said that their views on the BBI process will be considered.

“I appreciate having had a robust and candid discussion with leaders from pastoralist communities this morning. Their views on the BBI process that they expressed support for, are welcome and shall be taken into consideration as we formulate the way forward for our nation,” said Raila.

Last week, members of Parliament from pastoralist communities opposed the BBI report and issued a set of conditions to be met before offering their support.

“We will be cheating our parties and the country if we say that the pastoralist community is happy with the document,” said former House Majority Leader and Garissa Township MP Aden Duale.

Raila’s comments also come in wake of another meeting with governors and Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) scheduled for today to rally them behind the BBI report.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, will, alongside Raila, address the Council of Governors and County Assemblies Forum (CAF) during a two-day retreat at Enashipai Spa and Lodge Resort in Naivasha.

The duo is pushing for a referendum to be held in June 2021, about a year to the next General Election.

Speaking to People Daily on Sunday, Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui who is playing host, said that governors and MCAs will be taken through the BBI report by constitutional experts with a view to building consensus.
