Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok has announced that the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) results for the 2025 Grade 9 candidates will be released on Thursday, December 11, 2025, setting the stage for the first major transition under the new education structure.

Speaking in Kikuyu on Monday, November 17, 2025, during the supervision of a KCSE examination container, Bitok assured parents, teachers, and learners that the transition from junior to senior school will be seamless, with placements scheduled to begin immediately after the release of results.

Bitok said the Ministry of Education has finalised verification processes and is now ready to release the results as scheduled. He confirmed that senior school placements will be conducted within one week after December 11, 2025, ensuring candidates receive their admission letters before the Christmas holidays.

“We will release the results on the 11th, and within one week after that, we will do our placements. Admission letters will be issued before Christmas,” Bitok stated.

He added that all the 1.1 million Grade 9 learners are expected to report to senior school on January 12, 2026, marking one of the most significant transitions since the rollout of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

Smooth transition assured

The PS further emphasised that the ministry had put in place adequate measures to ensure this year’s examinations, the largest in the country’s history with 3.4 million candidates, proceeded without major challenges.

He noted that coordination between the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), security teams, and regional education officials had significantly improved the administration process.

Bitok also moved to reassure the public that the government’s policy on free education remains intact amid growing concerns over rising school costs.

“All our learners will continue enjoying free primary education and free day secondary education. The policy has not changed,” he reiterated.

He further said any future adjustments to school fees would be communicated publicly, insisting that no new charges had been introduced.

The PS affirmed that the government is committed to the timely release of capitation funds starting in 2026 once the ongoing verification of school and learner data is complete, a reform he said will promote accountability and reduce delays in school operations.
