A section of anti-Finance Bill protesters attempting to gain access to the National Assembly have been shot dead.

In a video seen by K24 Digital, the bodies of at least 10 protesters are seen lying dead outside the parliament premises even as the demonstrations continued. Other protesters were injured during the gunfire.

A section of the parliament building was also set on fire shortly after protestors gained entry. The source of the fire, however, remains unknown.

The protesters against the contentious bill made their way to parliament after 195 Members of Parliament (MPs) voted in its favour. The MPs were whisked to safety through the underground tunnel as the protests intensified.

After the voting, the session was adjourned and rescheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, June 25, 2024.
