A police officer attached to Ganga Police Post in Busia County on the wee hours of Thursday morning shot dead his wife and later pulled the trigger on himself.

According to a police report filed at Sioport Police Station in Samia Sub County, Busia, and seen by K24 Digital, police constable Edwin Muhula was found dead at his residence together with his wife at a time when he was supposed to be on duty.

Sources say the police officer left their six-month-old baby.

The incident is said to have happened around 4 am when corporal Ahmed Muhammed, who is in charge of the Ganga Police Post, heard gunshots at his residence.

After alerting his fellow officers, who are said to have responded in time, he discovered that constable Muhula was missing.

“He went to the post as he was on duty but missed him. He was then left with no option other than checking on him physically by knocking on the door but there was no response,” reads in part the police report.

Muhammed raised the matter to the Sioport Police Station commander who then alerted the sub county commander before they all visited the scene in the company of the DCI officers.
”…it was established that the said officer had shot dead his wife whose name not yet established and also shot himself dead using his G3 rifle No. J52715,” the police report reads.

Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officers secured the scene for investigation.
