Police officers attached to Pangani Police Station shot and killed a man who was reportedly part of a gang that violently robbed a woman of her mobile phone.

In a police report filed at the station on Saturday, February 4 at 9:30 pm, the incident took place at 9 pm when officers who were on patrol cornered the duo along Agoi Road within the Pangani Shopping centre.

The officers are said to have witnessed the duo engaging the lady at gunpoint before trying to escape. At the time, the woman was wailing uncontrollably seeking help from members of the public.

“The two suspects jumped from a moving motorcycle that had its number plate folded,” the police report read in part.

The police are said to have closed in on the robbers soon after they robbed the woman but their quest to have them surrender bore no fruits forcing the officers to engage them in a gunfight which led to one of the robbers being wounded.

“One of the robbers was fatally injured and the officers recovered one homemade pistol, two rounds of ammunition suspected to be 9mm, two mobile phones and one motorcycle of registration number KMFX 684B,” the report read.

The scene was visited by officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and regular police officers.

The deceased has since been taken to the City mortuary awaiting postmortem as investigations into the incident continue.
