Former West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio has said that the former ruling Jubilee Party will announce and sponsor its 2027 presidential candidate if everything goes well.

Speaking to K24 TV on Friday, August 8, 2025, where he cautioned those who had written off former President Uhuru Kenyatta in the political arena, Poghisio noted that recent moves by the former head of state signal a renewed political awakening within the party.

“When the former president visits State House in his capacity now and comes and has his first meeting and now declares we are back, let’s wait and see how it will move,” Poghisio said.

He added that the optics of the meeting carry a deeper message about Jubilee’s future.

Uhuru’s role in Jubilee’s comeback

He explained that Uhuru’s re-emergence on the political stage could set the stage for a major realignment ahead of the 2027 general election.

According to Poghisio, the former president’s presence has already energised the party’s base and could attract old allies back into the fold.

“It shows there is a serious formation ahead of the 2027 general election, and probably there will be a presidential candidate,” Poghisio said.

“It looks like, with the coming of Uhuru Kenyatta, the direction of the Jubilee will be seen and felt now.”

Jubilee’s path to 2027

Poghisio’s remarks come amid growing speculation that Jubilee, which had faced internal wrangles and defections since leaving power in 2022, is quietly restructuring to position itself as a major contender in the next polls.

Insiders say the return of Uhuru could help unify factions and rekindle the party’s national appeal.

The former senator also hinted that the party’s revival would depend on its ability to craft a strong, issues-driven campaign that resonates with voters across the country.

He urged Jubilee members to focus on policy, unity, and grassroots mobilisation rather than internal disputes.

Political analysts view Uhuru’s recent moves as part of a calculated comeback strategy, though it remains unclear whether he will personally play an active role in the campaign or simply serve as a kingmaker.

For Poghisio, however, one thing is clear, the Jubilee Party is preparing to re-enter the national stage with a serious bid for State House in 2027.
