A delegation of Kenyan women leaders has arrived in New York to participate in the 69th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).
The delegation includes Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, Ida Odinga, the wife of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, and Rozaah Buyu, the Kisumu West Member of Parliament.
According to a statement from Homa Bay County shared on their X account on March 11, 2025, the delegation is participating alongside other women leaders from Kenya.
“H.E Gladys Wanga, EGH alongside H.E Ida Odinga, H.E Wavinya Ndeti and Hon. Rozaah Buyu and a host of other women leaders are attending the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, 2025, at the UN headquarters,” the statement reads in part.

The statement also noted that this year’s session will focus on evaluating challenges that hinder the implementation of the Platform for Action and the achievement of gender equality goals.
“The sixty-ninth session will assess current challenges affecting the implementation of the Platform for Action and the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of women and full realization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” Homa Bay County added.

In her statement posted on Facebook on March 11, 2025, Governor Wanga expressed her enthusiasm for participating in the international forum.
“Touching down at the #CSW (Commission on the Status of Women) 2025, where policy meets passion and global voices unite for gender equality. Honoured to stand alongside Min Piny Canon Dr Ida Odinga, H.E Governor Wavinya Ndeti, Mhesh. Rozaah Buyu, and other women leaders ready to challenge, learn, and empower,” Wanga stated.

The Commission on the Status of Women is the principal global intergovernmental body dedicated exclusively to promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women.
This high-level gathering at the UN headquarters brings together global leaders to review progress on gender equality and women’s empowerment.
It provides an opportunity for countries to share experiences, highlight challenges, and commit to further actions to advance women’s rights worldwide.
