A petition has been filed in court seeking to suspend the appointment of Bernard Ngugi as Kenya Power’s managing director and chief executive officer (CEO).

The petitioner, Maureen Nyambura, also wants Mr Ngugi barred from acting and performing his duties as MD pending hearing of the application.

In the application filed on November 26, 2019, Ms Nyambura claimed that Ngugi was announced as the new CEO on October 28, 2019, despite having been the general manager in charge of supply, in which capacity he headed the office involved in flawed procurement of transformers.

Ms Nyambura also claimed the CEO selection process was marked by lack of transparency, saying no information was given on the recruitment phase, number of participants, shortlisted candidates despite Kenya Power being a public firm.

She claims that the only public announcement made was the advertisement of the vacancy and the appointment of Mr Ngugi as the CEO>

“Questions remain around the fairness and impartiality of the selection process “said Ms Nyambura.

According to Ms Nyambura, Kenya Power did not select the best candidate for the job because of vested interests.
