Siaya County Governor James Orengo has voiced his support for Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, Dorcas Oduor, following her nomination by President William Ruto for the position of Attorney General.
In a statement posted on his X account on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, Orengo praised Oduor, highlighting her exceptional abilities and legal expertise. Orengo affirmed his confidence in her suitability for the esteemed role.
“Dorcas Oduor SC is competent, brilliant and experienced. She is great in the courtroom. Congratulations,” Orengo stated.
Ruto nominates Oduor for AG
Dorcas Oduor, the current Secretary of Public Prosecutions at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), is set to make history as Kenya’s first female Attorney General, pending approval by the National Assembly.
The president’s office emphasized Oduor’s extensive contributions to Kenyan law, noting her integrity, professional skill, and dedication to upholding the law.
“Senior Counsel Dorcas Oduor has demonstrated unimpeachable integrity, impressive professional competence, and steadfast commitment to the rule of law,” Felix Koskei, Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service stated.
Oduor’s legal career began with her admission to the bar as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in 1992, following her Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B) in 1990 and a postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law in 1991.
In addition to Oduor’s nomination, President Ruto appointed Beatrice Askul Moe as the Cabinet Secretary for East African Community Affairs (EAC) and Regional Development.
Koskei remarked, “These nominations reflect the President’s commitment to building a capable and inclusive Cabinet that can address the challenges facing our nation.”
These appointments complete President Ruto’s list of cabinet nominees, in accordance with the constitutional requirement that the Cabinet consist of no fewer than 14 and no more than 22 Cabinet Secretaries.
Ruto had previously nominated 20 people to his cabinet, excluding the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi who was the only one spared when the president dismissed his cabinet on July 11, 2024.
