Ombachi reacts to Ruto’s new incentive to Harambee Stars players
Former Rugby player and celebrated social media chef Dennis Ombachi has reacted to President William Ruto’s kind gesture to Harambee Stars players following a recent win in the CHAN tournament.
The celebrated chef shared his reaction on his official X account on Monday, August 11, 2025, while describing Ruto’s act as a proper incentive for sports personnel.
On his part, the former rugby player recalled Russian medalists at the Olympics who were given apartments in Moscow, followed by a high-end car.
“This is good, proper incentives are what is needed in sports, otherwise it’s professionalised hobbies. Reminds me of when all Russian medalists at the Olympics were given apartments in Moscow and a Mercedes-Benz. May all sportsmen play to experience this,” Ombachi wrote.

Ruto’s new incentives to Harambee Stars
Ombachi’s remarks sparked just moments after President William Ruto announced a significant cash incentive for Harambee Stars ahead of their upcoming match against Zambia, promising Ksh2.5 million for each player and member of the technical bench if the team secures a win on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
Speaking after he paid a visit to the team following their victory over Morocco, Ruto expressed confidence in the national football team and urged them to aim for victory.

“Sunday, I want us to have a new deal. God willing, we are winning. If we win, each person will get Ksh2.5 million, including the technical bench,” he said.
The president also promised additional rewards for the team if they win their quarter-finals. Ruto further added that they would each get Ksh1 million reward and a house under the affordable housing programme.
“For the quarters, if we win, on top of the Ksh1 million, I will add the affordable housing you have asked for,” he told the players.
Worth noting, Ruto’s announcement comes as the national team prepares for the high-stakes fixture, which will mark Kenya’s last game in the group stages.
On Sunday, Harambee Stars secured a 1-0 victory over two-time champions Morocco in their third Group A match of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024.
The match was played at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani on Sunday.
