Okiya Omtatah says he is Kenya’s only hope in 2027
Human rights activist and Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has declared that he is the country’s only hope in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, the Senator positioned himself as the leader who can restore the rule of law, defend the Constitution, and rescue the country from what he terms as economic despair, rampant corruption, and broken governance.
“Good morning, Patriots. Remind your neighbours, friends, and family: In this era of economic despair, runaway corruption, poor governance, extrajudicial killings, and abductions—Okiya Omtatah is our only hope in 2027,” he said.
“The man who defends the Constitution will now defend the nation. It’s time to restore & respect Kenya,” he added.

Okiya Omtatah further outlined his vision for rescuing Kenya’s economy from what he described as “state-engineered poverty.”
“Kenya is not broke; we are being looted and then borrowed into poverty. As president, I will audit & cancel odious debt, prosecute corrupt borrowing, renegotiate fair repayment, ban secret loans, and invest in jobs, not politics,” he declared.
Omtatah’s presidential bid
On November 24, 2024, Omtatah vowed to take on President William Ruto in the 2027 polls even as he unveiled a team to spearhead his bid.
Addressing journalists at his Upper Hill office in Nairobi, Omtatah said he will be on the ballot even if he is a “lone ranger” in the battle to unseat the president.

“It is a fight I’m going to take on so that in 2027, we have a free country,” the lawmaker said.
He said his resolve to unseat Ruto will not be distracted, regardless of whether he receives the support of other prominent figures in the political arena or not.
“If like-minded people come, the more the merrier. I am not a loner, but I don’t compromise, that’s why at times it appears like I am a loner. I would rather be a loner but have things move. The journey has started,” he said
