ODM party leader Oburu breaks silence after weeks of speculation about his health

Taking to his official X account on Friday, November 28, 2025, Oburu congratulated ODM candidates who clinched victories in the just-concluded by-elections.
The Siaya Senator further noted that their wins have shown that the party still enjoys the trust and confidence the people have placed in its leadership
“Congratulations to our ODM candidates Moses Omondi (Ugunja), Boyd Were (Kasipul) and Harrison Kombe (Magarini) for your great and well-deserved by-election victories. Your wins are a show to the trust and confidence the people have placed in your leadership,” Oburu wrote.
Oburu’s statement comes amid growing speculation and public interest regarding his health, providing clarity and reassurance to party members and supporters nationwide.
Oburu’s trip to Dubai
On Friday night, November 21, 2025, Oburu Odinga announced that he has taken a sabbatical break to refresh after a series of heated family and political engagements.
”Feeling grateful for good health and high spirits. Taking a short sabbatical to recollect, recharge, and reset,” Oburu took to X.
However, the announcement raised speculations among Kenyans about his health, forcing Jaoko Oburu, the son of Oburu Odinga and a nephew of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, to provide more details of his father’s trip to Dubai.
In a video posted on his social media page on Saturday, November 22, 2025, Jaoko detailed that they forced the newly installed Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader to fly to Dubai to rest and rejuvenate.
“We took mzee to go and rest. We forced him… we forced him that he has to take a break. Atarudi at the end of next week,” Jaoko stated.
“Mzee ameenda uko kunyoroshwa, kutembea tembea juu anapenda kutembea,” Jaoko added.
At the same time, Jaoko rubbished claims that Jaoko travelled to Dubai due to health complications, insisting that Oburu is healthy.
“Hakuenda na shida yoyote,” Jaoko informed the country, affirming that he will be back next week.
