A 36-year-old man from Kamakwa Location in Nyeri County on Tuesday, September 31, hacked his brother to death after a confrontation ensued between them over a three-seater couch.

According to a report by the DCI, Joseph Maina Kariuki was embroiled in a scuffle with his brother Elias Muriithi Kariuki resulting in him brandishing a machete and slashed his brother to death.

The incident began when their mother instructed Maina to repossess a three-seater couch that had been taken by Muriithi.

“Acting under the instructions of their mother, Joseph Maina Kariuki, 36, is reported to have gone to the house of his younger brother Elias Muriithi Kariuki to repossess the couch, a move that the latter was opposed to.

“A quarrel had ensued before the two came to blows. In the process, Muriithi, 33, is said to have brandished a machete with which he occasioned serious cuts to his elder brother, before smashing his head,” DCI report reads.

The suspect presented himself to Mathari Police Post to evade the wrath of angry area residents who were baying for his blood.

Police officers arrested him and visited the scene where they found the deceased’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood.

“The scene was processed by Crime Scene detectives, and legal procedures pending the arraignment of the suspect have since been initiated,” the DCI report stated.
