Nandi Hills MP Kitur sounds alarm over rising illegal kidney harvesting in Eldoret

MP Bernard Kibor Kitur has raised serious concerns over the increasing incidents of illegal organ harvesting, particularly kidney harvesting, in Eldoret and its surrounding regions.
In a press statement on Saturday, September 27, 2025, the Nandi Hills lawmaker noted that recent reports suggest that criminal syndicates may be exploiting healthcare institutions to conduct illicit organ trade, placing vulnerable young people at severe risk.

He revealed that his office had received multiple inquiries regarding allegations of illegal organ harvesting, which he described as deeply disturbing and a clear violation of human rights and the integrity of the healthcare system.
“We have received multiple inquiries regarding allegations of illegal organ harvesting activities reported in Eldoret and its surrounding regions. We take these claims with the utmost seriousness and unequivocally condemn any form of exploitation, trafficking, or abuse involving human organs,” Kibor noted.
The MP attributed specific concern to a case reported in June 2024, in which Leah Chepkorir, a mother from Kipkenyo, claimed that her 22-year-old son, Amon Kipruto Melly, had his kidney harvested at a local private hospital for Ksh600,000.
He noted that this is only one among several alleged undocumented cases involving the syndicate and that the matter was reported to Langas Police Station under OB 41 dated August 31, 2024.
“This is one of the many undocumented cases of illegal organ harvesting syndicate that operate in the country,” Kibor said.

MP Kibor further highlighted that investigations have implicated the local hospital in facilitating illegal kidney transplants and alleged collusion with criminal networks.
He attributed the syndicate’s operations to a complex web that employs falsified alien IDs, often of Somali origin, to mask the true identities of the young men involved.
He noted that these victims are often unemployed or financially desperate, and while promised payments of up to Ksh1.2 million, most received only between Ksh200,000 and 600,000.
“Majority of these cases end up getting paid little amounts from 200-600k despite the initial promise of 1.2M.”
He revealed that official documents submitted to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations by the hospital show a deliberate trend of falsifying personal identities.
MP Kibor cited the example of Amon Kipruto Melly, whose genuine ID number 41375146 was registered under the false name Amon Hussein Kipruto with a fabricated alien ID and photo.
He also mentioned another case involving Emmanuel Kipkosgei from Simat Location, whose true ID 41477801 was falsified as Abdizemek Ibrahim Hussein with a Somali nationality, with the said local hospital submitting conflicting documents when queried by investigators.
“For example, the case of Amon Kipruto Melly whose Genuine ID is 41375146 was registered as Amon Hussein Kipruto of Fake Alien ID number 41375146 registered as a Somali National and given a fake photo on the alien ID as indicated on the attached copy of the alien ID,” the MP lamented.
Kibor insisted that this matter demands transparency, accountability, and a coordinated response from the authorities. He attributed the persistence of such crimes to loopholes in monitoring and urged the government to dismantle both local and international syndicates involved in organ trafficking.
“This matter demands transparency, accountability, and swift action. No individual or institution is above the law. We are committed to upholding human rights, protecting the dignity of every citizen, and ensuring that the integrity of our healthcare system is not compromised by criminal elements.”
The MP then asserted that updates would be issued as more verified information emerges, highlighting that the fight against illegal organ harvesting is a matter of human dignity, ethical responsibility, and the protection of Kenya’s healthcare integrity.
“Further updates will be issued as more verified information becomes available. Currently, we are keen to address these critical questions,” he concluded.
