Murkomen urges Kenyans to observe law during Harambee Stars match against Madagascar

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has urged Kenyans attending the Harambee Stars’ CHAN 2024 tournament against Madagascar to support the national team while upholding law and order.
Speaking during a joint media briefing on Thursday night, August 21, 2025, ahead of the highly anticipated match, Murkomen praised fans for their discipline during the previous fixture and expressed confidence that the same spirit would prevail.
“Those who managed to get tickets and will be in Kasarani, we believe, will do the greatest shouting to support our team to become successful, but also we will observe the law like we did in the last match,” Murkomen urged.
He further noted that the recommended fan capacity at the stadium is currently at 80 per cent, and he was optimistic that Kasarani would be at full capacity in the coming matches.
“We are now at 80 per cent in Kasarani, I believe tomorrow we will succeed and be at 100 per cent in the coming matches,” he added.

Stadium capacity
This comes after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) increased the capacity of fans at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, for the quarter-finals match between Harambee Stars and Madagascar on Friday, August 22, 2025.
The revised limits mean the stadium will now allow at least 36,000 fans from the initial 27,000 limit set after a section of unticketed fans forced their way to watch the Group A match between Morocco and Kenya.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya welcomed the news on Thursday, August 21, saying it was a boost for the Harambee Stars.
“I have welcomed the Confederation of African Football (CAF)’s decision to revise stadium attendance to 80 per cent, translating to 36,000 tickets,” Mvurya wrote on his official X account.
“CAF is working to reopen the ticketing portal to accommodate the additional numbers, ensuring more fans can rally behind our national team, Harambee Stars, in the ongoing CHAN 2024 tournament.”
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) lodged an appeal, pointing out several corrective measures. These included tighter security, streamlined gate operations, and better crowd management. CAF accepted the changes, clearing the way for more fans to support the national team on Friday.
