A 14-year-old girl from Kipsaina Village in Elgeyo Marakwet County who was on the verge of losing hope in life can breathe a sigh of relief after area Senator Kipchumba Murkomen pledged to sort out her academic expenses.

Jebiwot attempted suicide after her parents failed to take her to school for form one admission.

Senator Murkomen, who learned about the plight of Winnie Jebiwot Kemboi from a media report, said he will ensure she gets admitted to school on Tuesday, August 31.

“I have arranged for Winnie Jebiwot to be taken to a good boarding school. I will take care of her shopping and school fees. She should be in school by close of business tomorrow (Tuesday),” Murkomen said

Jebiwot was placed at Turesia Secondary School but failed to report on the scheduled date since her parents were still sourcing funds.

The frustration of missing out on the form one admission led her to ingest an agrochemical in an attempt to commit suicide

Her father Philip Kemboi confirmed the incident and revealed that they found her ingesting an agrochemical.

The incident happened last week.

Kemboi said they rushed her to the hospital where she was treated and discharged. She is still recuperating.

The father says he has spent all his resources in educating Jebiwot’s elder siblings but they are yet to secure decent employment to help him foot family needs.
