Murkomen calls for patience as investigations continue in Kyalo Mbobu’s killing
Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has urged Kenyans to exercise patience as investigations into the brutal killing of Senior Counsel Kyalo Mbobu continue.
Speaking to a local TV station on Monday, September 15, 2025, Murkomen described the late Mbobu not only as a respected legal mind but also as someone with whom he shared a personal journey.

“Dr Kyalo Mbobu was my teacher and later became my colleague at the University of Nairobi. So, for me this matter is personal,” he said.

The CS expressed confidence in the security and investigative agencies handling the case, assuring the public that a competent team was in place to unravel what he termed as a “very heinous act.” He appealed to Kenyans to remain calm and allow due process to take its course.
“I have no doubt that we have a team that is capable of getting to the bottom of this. Let’s exercise patience and give them time to resolve this matter,” he added.

His remarks come a few days after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) ordered the Inspector General of Police to submit a comprehensive report within seven days on the murder of Mbobu.
In a statement issued on X on Thursday, September 11, 2025, the ODPP said it joins Kenyans in mourning the death of a man who greatly influenced the practice of law, especially in the area of evidence.

The office extended its deepest condolences to Mbobu’s family, colleagues, and friends, noting that his exemplary leadership left a lasting impact on the profession.
The DPP has instructed police investigators to fast-track their work and provide a detailed update within a week. The directive is aimed at ensuring that all critical evidence is identified, collected, and preserved in strict accordance with the law.
According to the statement, this approach is necessary to guarantee accountability and to reassure the public that justice will be delivered.
“Accordingly, the DPP has DIRECTED the Inspector General of Police to fast-track investigations into this incident and to submit a comprehensive status update to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions within seven (7) days for review and further action,” the statement read.
The ODPP also supported calls from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for members of the public with any information to come forward. Investigators believe eyewitness accounts and community cooperation will be crucial in piecing together what happened on the day of the shooting and identifying those responsible.
“The ODPP echoes the DCI’s appeal for members of the public with any information relevant to this case to come forward and share it with law enforcement agencies without delay,” a part of the statement.
