A section of Murang’a leaders has endorsed former presidential candidate Peter Kenneth as their preferred Mt Kenya kingpin as 2022 succession politics intensify.

Led by Senate Chief Whip Irungu Kang’ata, Maragua’s Mary Wamaua Waithira, and Gatanga MP Nduati Ngugi the leaders also pleaded with President Uhuru Kenyatta to appoint Kenneth to the Cabinet.

Speaking at Kiambamba shopping center of Kambiti location in Murang’a County on Sunday, July 19, the trio sang praises for Kenneth, recounting his exemplary performance as the Gatanga MP and when he held various government positions.

“He has no blemish, no corruption despite serving in various powerful government positions. His Constituency to date remembers him due to proper and prudent management of NGCDF funds,” Nduati said.

On her part, MP Waithira said Kenneth was the best-placed leader to unify the Murang’a County and Mt Kenya region and rally the region behind the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

The BBI is a brainchild of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga in wake of the fractious two presidential elections held in 2017.

Wamaua said Kenneth, apart from being the senior-most politician in the region, is also the most experienced politician apart from President Kenyatta.

“He should be considered during the reorganization of government to offer his vast experience in governance and support to Jubilee government,” she added.

Senator Irungu Kangata said he will continue pushing to have the Kirwara son, a banker and lawyer to be included in government.

“His experience will be of great help to the Jubilee administration and it would only be fair to have him in government. He has been supportive of the President and has never gone against his agenda,” Senator Kangata added.

The Chief Whip announced that Murang’a County was united and would be led by Kenneth to face the succession politics as a team.

“Murang’a has been supporting other presidential candidates and time has come that the county produces a leader with political knowledge and understanding to represent Murang’a and the region at the bargaining table,” He said.

During the function, hundreds of locals from Kambiti benefited from foodstuffs from Kang’ata which he sourced from among other people, Peter Kenneth.
