Political commentator and businessman Morara Kebaso has likened the current business environment in Kenya to a game of chance.

Taking to his official X account on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, the Inclusive National Justice, Economic & Civic Transformation (INJECT) Party leader cited unpredictable policy shifts and rising operational costs as major hurdles for entrepreneurs.

Uncertain business environment

According to Morara, running a business in the country has become increasingly uncertain, with many business owners left guessing about the next policy change or cost increase.

“Doing business in this country is now similar to gambling and betting. Even with capital, you are not assured of success. You cannot predict your revenue or profits,” Morara stated.

Morara, who runs a furniture business with several branches across the country, went ahead to state that it has become useless for someone to make a five-year plan or a three-year plan, since most businesspeople are just surviving month to month.

He further argued that the workforce in the country has increasingly become unfaithful, as most of them come from a morally decayed society, making them unreliable and untrustworthy.

“It is useless to make a five-year plan or a three-year plan. You just survive month to month. The workforce/employees in Kenya are coming from a morally decayed society, making them unreliable and untrustworthy. This is a sad situation,” Morara wrote on X.

Frustration

Morara’s remarks come days after he raised alarm over sustained frustration and restrictions he claims to have faced as a result of his civic engagements.

In a statement posted on his X account on Monday, July 14, 2025, Kebaso revealed that his KRA PIN has been blocked, denying him access to basic services such as acquiring a tax compliance certificate, opening a bank account, registering a business, or even obtaining a certificate of good conduct from the DCI.

He further disclosed that the same blockage has limited his ability to travel to countries essential for his business activities, such as China, and has made it impossible to own land under his name.

“Today I am suffering; I can’t travel to some countries like China, which are essential for my business, because I can’t get a tax compliance from KRA. I can’t open a bank account because my KRA PIN was blocked. I can’t register a business license because my KRA PIN is blocked. I can’t even get a good conduct from DCI if I need a job. I can’t own land in my name if my PIN is blocked. Because I was fighting for you. You who insult me every day, yet you need more help than I,” Morara posed.
