The newly sworn-in Meru governor Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia has nominated lawyer Linda Kiome, the former Mithika Linturi’s gubernatorial running mate, as his deputy.

Speaking to K24 Digital, the county boss said he settled on Kiome owing to her integrity and competence in service delivery.

“Mrs Kiome is my choice she is a sharp lawyer ,respectable and principled calm lady who I am.beyold doubt that she will help me bring peace, unity and economic growth in this county,” the Meru governor said.

Mutuma added that he chose Kiome for her strong morals and professionalism, expressing confidence that the region will find peace due to her calm and non-controversial nature.

“I will forward her name anytime to the county assembly for vetting and approval and I know together we will discharge our duties with transparency and fairness so that we can revive this county by bringing tangible developments and boost the economy,” Mutuma said.

Kiome, a renowned advocate of the High Court and daughter of the former Meru Municipality MCA, was the gubernatorial running mate to former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi in the last general election.

Her nomination comes just days after Mutuma was sworn in as the new Meru governor following the impeachment of his former boss Kawira Mwangaza.

In 2023, former Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza appointed Kiome as the county legal advisor, a position she held until April 2024 when tensions arose between the two.

During Mwangaza’s second impeachment proceedings at the Senate last year, Kiome accused her of forging her signature on official county documents.

Previously, Kiome served as the president of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Mt. Kenya branch caucus and as a board member at Meru National Polytechnic and Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital.
