The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has mourned the late journalist Nathan Gitonga as an astute professional whose voice touched the lives of many of his listeners.
In a statement on Saturday, MCK equally eulogised Gitonga, popularly referred to as ‘Mwenda Nchamba,’ as a journalist who held the highest standards of the profession.
“The Media Council of Kenya joins the family, friends, and the entire media community in mourning the untimely passing of Nathan Mwiti Gitonga, affectionately known as ‘Mwenda Nchamba’,” MCK stated.
Indelible mark
“Gitonga was a dedicated journalist who began his career in 2016 at Meru TV and Thiiri FM.”
“His contributions to ethical journalism and community reporting have left an indelible mark. He upheld the highest standards of professionalism, earning the respect of his colleagues and the trust of his audience,” MCK remarked.

Gitonga was equally mourned by Meru County Woman Representative Kailemia Karambu, who hailed the presenter as a unifier and a great storyteller.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mwenda Nchamba, a cherished media personality who graced both Thiiri FM and Meru TV with his voice, humour, and passion for our culture,” Karambu said.
Proud son of Meru
“Mwenda was more than a presenter—he was a storyteller, a unifier, and a proud son of Meru. His contribution to our community through the media was immeasurable.”
“On behalf of the people of Meru County, I send my deepest condolences to his family, the entire Thiiri FM and Meru TV teams, and all who knew and loved him. We have lost a legend. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

The journalist died on June 21, 2025, after a short illness, throwing the region and his loyal listeners into sadness.
