Embu County Governor Cecily Mbarire on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, held a meeting with Deputy President Kithure Kindiki at his Karen office, just days after raising concerns over interference in her county’s operations by senior officials within President Ruto’s administration.

According to a statement posted on Kindiki’s social media platforms, the meeting followed an earlier engagement he had with Embu leaders, including the county senator and members of parliament.

In the latest session, he met with Governor Mbarire and Embu County Assembly Majority Leader Peter Muriithi.

The discussions focused on ongoing national government projects in Embu and strategies to protect key agricultural value chains such as tea, coffee, macadamia, and Catha edulis (commonly known as Muguuka), which are central to the region’s economy.

”Following last evening’s meeting with the senator and members of parliament from Embu County, this morning I met Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire and the county assembly majority leader Peter Muriithi to discuss the status of national government projects in the area and interventions to protect key agricultural value chains, including tea, coffee, macadamia, and cathus edulis (Muguuka),” Kindiki said in a statement posted on X.

Kindiki went ahead to post photos of himself and the two before and during the meeting.

This comes after a perceived fallout between Mbarire and Kindiki.

Mbarires’ Madaraka Day speech

During the 62nd Madaraka Day celebrations on June 1, 2025, at Makima Primary School in Mbeere South, Embu County, Governor Mbarire delivered a fiery speech expressing frustration with senior Kenya Kwanza government officials, whom she accused of undermining her leadership.

She voiced deep discontent over clandestine political manoeuvres, stating that certain individuals within the government she supports had begun plotting against her.

Mbarire specifically criticised ‘officers from Nairobi’ for holding secret night meetings in Embu to strategise the county’s political direction without involving her or other elected leaders.

She accused them of disrespect, arguing that they believed they understood Embu politics better than local leaders.

Emphasising her loyalty to President William Ruto and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Mbarire recalled the sacrifices she made campaigning for Ruto in 2022, stating that she had suffered the most for supporting the government.

As UDA national chairperson, she warned the unnamed officials to stop their actions or risk being publicly exposed.

She made it clear that she would not be intimidated, referencing her long experience in politics and stating her readiness to confront those working against her.

Mbarire asserted her position as the duly elected leader of Embu County and demanded respect, challenging the officials to return to Embu if they dared, promising to confront them directly.

She called for mutual respect and open dialogue, urging the officials to engage elected leaders constructively. She warned that any continued disrespect would be met with equal resistance.

Finally, Mbarire urged Embu residents to stand with her against these disruptions, reaffirming her commitment to their welfare since her election in 2022.
