‘Not what I expected’ – Mashirima Kapombe speaks moments after her phone number gets leaked

Renowned Kenyan journalist Mashirima Kapombe in an interesting turn of events has found herself in an unexpected situation after her phone number was leaked to the public.

In a post shared on her X account on July 18, 2024, Mashirima spoke out shortly after the incident, and shared her experience, revealing that the aftermath was not what she had anticipated.

Amid the chaos of her personal number being exposed, Mashirima was taken aback by the overwhelming response she received. 

According to the journalist both strangers and familiar faces reached out to her, flooding her with messages of support and solidarity. This unexpected show of unity and compassion touched her deeply, instilling in her a sense of hope for Kenya’s future.

“I don’t think this is what they expected… Thank you for all the kind and warm messages. You all give me hope that Kenya will triumph and we are better together; known & unknown, rich or poor, Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X. God bless you and our great country,” Mashirima noted.

Outpouring messages

Reflecting on the overpouring of messages she received, Mashirima expressed gratitude for the positivity and encouragement. She remarked that amidst the challenges and uncertainties of recent events, the collective response from Kenyans from all walks of life reaffirmed her belief in the resilience and unity of the Kenyan people.

Several Kenyans reassured Mashirima that they would support her and her colleagues despite reports of alleged attacks after covering the recent protests.

“Mine is to just tell you, let no one intimidate you, harass you or discredit you, because you’re doing the lord’s work! Citizen TV is doing a splendid job, by telling the naked truth. Kenyans love Citizen TV, and I hope this won’t make you people relent and cease covering the occurrences. Let’s make Kenya a great country for everyone!” an anonymous fan wrote.
