Gilbert Masengeli has been sworn in as the new Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Administration Police Service.
Masengeli and his Kenya Police counterpart Eliud Lagat were sworn in on July 25, 2024, at the Supreme Court by Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya Martha Koome.
Masengeli has expressed his gratitude to President William Ruto for his appointment and successful vetting by the National Police Service Commission.
He has also assured of his commitment to teamwork through the multi-agency approach to ensure peace and security for all in the country.
Masengeli takes over from James Kamau who was serving as the acting Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Administration Police Service.
“He will also act as the Inspector General National Police Service as former Acting IG Douglas Kanja Kirocho awaits his Parliamentary vetting after he was nominated by His Excellency President Dr Ruto as the IG,” the National Police Service stated on Monday, July 29, 2024.
The changes followed the resignation of former Inspector General of the National Police Service, Japheth Koome.
President Ruto appointed Douglas Kanja, former Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service, as the acting Inspector-General of the National Police Service.
Changes to police service
In the changes to the police service, Ruto appointed Patrick Mwiti Arandu as the Commissioner General of Prisons. Arandu takes over from Brigadier (Rtd) John Warioba, who is proceeding on terminal leave pending the end of his tenure of office.
The president also redeployed Noor Gabow within the Public Service.
Ranson Lolmodooni was appointed the Commandant, the General Service Unit (GSU) while William Yiampoy was appointed the Director of Operations, Police Headquarters.
Kainga Mathiu was appointed the Commandant, National Police Leadership Academy (NPSA), Ngong.
