Martha Karua to Raila: Stop politics of dishonesty in Kenya
The People’s Liberation Party Leader, Martha Karua, on Friday, September 5, 2025, asked Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party boss Raila Odinga to stop what she termed as dishonest politics.
Speaking on one of the local radio stations, Karua said Raila must choose whether to work with President William Ruto’s administration or stand firmly with the opposition.

“My brother Raila, please stop the politics of dishonesty because, being in government with one leg and occupying committees that belong to the opposition, you are obstructing the work of holding the government to account. Go to the government honourably!” Karua stated.
Her remarks come just days after Raila and Ruto held separate meetings with Nairobi MCAs, which eventually saved Governor Johnson Sakaja from impeachment.
The move has stirred sharp debate within the opposition, with some leaders claiming Raila compromised the oversight role of elected representatives.
Karua reminded the ODM leader that Kenyans expect the opposition to stand firm and ensure accountability in government, not to “play both sides.”
She insisted that any cooperation that undermines oversight betrays the sacrifices Kenyans have made to protect democracy.

“Raila must be clear on which side he belongs. He cannot continue to weaken the opposition while dining with the government at the same time,” Karua warned.
Her remarks are seen as part of a growing rift within the opposition family, with Ruth Odinga earlier in the week also faulting Raila over his role in saving Sakaja.
Karua links Ruto to Mandera insecurity.
The Minister also weighed in on reports that Jubaland forces had crossed into Mandera County.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen had recently dismissed the claims, insisting that investigations were ongoing and no evidence had been confirmed.

But Karua was categorical, saying the government was deliberately downplaying the matter.
“Ruto and his rogue regime are deliberately creating insecurity, realising that people are not with them.
“CS Murkomen should deny those allegations while standing in Mandera, telling us that there is nothing to worry about. And where is CS Soipan?” she asked.
Her sentiments are expected to fuel further debate as security in the northern frontier and the state of opposition politics remain key concerns ahead of the 2027 elections.
