Maraga rejects UDA-ODM committee on NADCO report implementation

Former Chief Justice David Kenani Maraga has voiced sharp criticism of the bipartisan committee formed by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), saying it is failing to address the pressing needs of Kenyans.
In a statement posted on X on Friday, August 8, 2025, Maraga accused the committee of prioritising political deals over genuine reforms, calling on leaders to focus on delivering real and lasting change to the Kenyan people.
Committee lacks results
On August 6, 2025, the ruling UDA and opposition ODM established a five-member committee to oversee the implementation of the 10-Point Agenda and the National Dialogue and Cohesion (NADCO) report.
The committee aims to address long-standing national challenges through the full implementation of the NADCO Report, promotion of inclusivity in public life, and protection and strengthening of devolution.

However, Maraga questioned the effectiveness of this latest body. “No one is blind to the fact that nothing changes because the same sludge of systemic rot that benefits the few stays in place,” he said. “The same corrupt players pull the strings, and political power-grab remains the core intention.”
Elite capture persists
The former chief justice denounced the creation of yet another bureaucratic body as “a deceit that comes at great expense to the taxpayer.” He warned that this repeated insult to the intelligence of Kenyans “will not go unchallenged.”
“What Kenyans want is real systemic change,” Maraga insisted. “What they are getting is reckless performative governance by a lazy leadership whose investment is purely in elite bargains.”
Demand for real reform
Maraga emphasised that any future committees must “have the capacity to reset governance to the rule of law, restore the humanity of ordinary Kenyans lost through games of selfish elite power-grabs, and rebuild the institutions that must hold leaders accountable.”
As frustration grows over the slow pace of reforms, Maraga’s words highlight the urgent need for genuine leadership that prioritises the welfare of Kenyans over political interests.
